One of the most difficult things to face as a parent is to know your child is sick – and there is nothing you can do to “fix” the problem. I’m not discounting this situation with mothers – and I’ve interviewed a few mom’s on this program who have faced health problems with their children. But I can relate to how a father looks at this situation. Men, inherently, want to “fix things” that are wrong – and to make them right. We want to bear the burden if it means our family is ok. That’s just wired in us. One of the most important things we can do, both mothers and fathers, is learn how battle the devil on a spiritual level. Yes, he is attacking us or our family in the natural while this is happening…but the Spiritual always – ALWAYS – overcomes the natural when we rest in Christ. Amen! My guest today had to face this type of battle himself. He had to find a way to fight for his son, who was born with, not one, but TWO heart defects. Failing heart valves and a rapid pulse called SVT.  The doctors had not faced a situation like this with these two issues at the same time in such a young infant. Over the course of 18 months, he endured 6 open heart surgeries. RL Shawver authored a book describing his son’s ordeal but how his faith also grew exceedingly strong throughout this experience, titled, “For This Child I Have Prayed: 6 Heart Surgeries in 18 Months.” This is part two of what ended up as a great three part interview! How did you handle the fear at this point? You share in your book how these doctors are performing, basically, miraculous surgeries on a daily basis. I think that goes right along with what we said a few minutes ago. Where there is a calling to be a doctor just as there is a calling to be in ministry, right? Every time Samuel was undergoing a surgery, you would journal scripture quotes. Scriptures that meant something to you. I know your friend, Jake, had sent you several scriptures and the names of some books to read.  How did these books help you to prepare mentally and spiritually for these huge ordeals? After the second surgery, you were inspired to pray SPECIFICALLY for each step of the recovery process. In your book, you say the results happened swiftly. How did these victories minister to you as to your spiritual authority in the eyes of God? After the third surgery, you were wondering if it was possible for you to just “lay claim to any promise in the Bible.”  What was sparking those thoughts and how did you settle that question in your spirit? Folks, what RL and his wife, Stephanie and little Samuel, and their entire family, Isaiah, the grandparents and everyone, have endured cannot be measured or described with words. But, it is THE WORD that brought them through. God is True. Every promise in the Word of God is True. Every word that is contrary to THE WORD of God is a lie. And I highly, HIGHLY, want to recommend RL Shawver’s book, Even if you do not have issues like we have discussed today, this book will bless you and increase your faith.
