If you listened to our interview as we discussed Joseph’s book, “Terror Strikes: Coming Soon to a City Near You,” you heard me ask him to come back on the podcast and discuss the pro’s-con’s and details of self-publishing.
I know many of our listeners have a book inside them and the Lord has put it on your hearts to write that book, but you’re not sure of how to go about it. You’re not sure of the publishing options. You’re not sure if you should hire an editor. You’re not sure of a lot of things.
Joseph, thank you for taking the time to come back on and share this valuable information with our listeners today. I appreciate your time.
First up, let’s discuss writing the book, then we can get into the publishing aspect.
We see movies and such where a writer goes off to a mountain cabin for six months or a year as a recluse and re-emerges with a best-selling novel. Or they go on a cruise for six months and come back with a book. Is that realistic and is that what you did?
Do you do one chapter per day? One page per day? Is there a set amount?
What about character development? In your book, “Terror Strikes,” your character is Martin, a Detroit newspaper reporter. How long did it take for you to develop that character?
Is there a set writing style for different genres? Fiction, religion, novels, etc.?
Tell us about your writing style and how it came about and how you developed it…
So you write your chapters and finally, it’s finished. Or is it? Once you have the first draft completed, do you turn it over to an editor or do you begin to self-edit first?
Can’t we just set it aside for a couple of days or weeks and then go back and edit ourself again?
How many edits do you usually go through before deciding to turn it over to someone else?
At what point do you begin to look for a publisher?
What are the different publishing options?
