Stepping Out on Faith – Gladys “Peaches” Kenney

Hello everyone everywhere, this is Pastor Robert Thibodeau and I want to welcome you to the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast today!  I have a question for you as we get started today…

Have you ever encountered something so dramatic in your life that you literally had two choices and that was it… One – to just relent, cave in and “whatever will be will be” or two – to fight back, take control and redefine who you are and what you stand for and inspire others along the way?

My guest today was faced with those two choices. She chose to fight back. And now her life has been redefined into inspiring others who are facing their cross roads in life. She inspires others to fulfill their dreams using their God given talents.

Gladys Kenney, also known as “Peaches” – is a Licensed Social Worker, Speaker, Motivator, Praise Dance Instructor, Facilitator, Author, Mentor, Coach, Entrepreneur and more.  She is a native of Eastern Shore of Maryland but currently resides in the Baltimore Metropolitan area.

She has a Master’s degree from the University of Maryland at the Baltimore School of Social Work, and has over 20 years of experience working with families and children. She has unselfishly provided outreach services throughout the community.  Her faith in God is her driving force which compels her to help others.

In 2016, she suddenly found herself unemployed. If that was not enough of a challenge, she was then diagnosed with breast cancer. Instead of caving in to these pressures, she fought back. She was determined not to give up. She would walk “by faith and not by sight.”

While preparing for her cancer treatment, she wrote a book called,“Stepping Out on Faith Dare to Dream: A Journal of Faith Book & Workbook.”This book was published just two days after her surgery to remove the breast cancer.  This book was written to inspire others to fulfill their dreams using their God-given talents. The book reveals how the author overcame her life challenges; such as toxic relationships, low self-esteem, procrastination, grief and more by trusting God.

Her new motto to live by is: “Cancer did not kill me but gave me life and purpose!”

I am so blessed to have on the program today, Gladys “Peaches” Kenney!  Glory to God, Gladys, welcome to the show today!

Wow. That’s all I can say to start off with is “Wow!”  Gladys, let me ask you this…

Well, let me back up a minute. The first question I ask every guest is this…other than that brief bio I just read, tell us in your own words, “Who is Gladys “Peaches” Kenney?”

Ok, now let’s go to the beginning…

You have 20 years of social work behind you. In 2016, that came to an unexpected end. Not only did you lose your job, but were diagnosed with breast cancer right in that same time frame. Did it seem like the devil was piling on? How did your Faith in God get you through that time?

When did you decide to journal your fight by writing a book?

So, even as you were personally battling cancer, you still had a heart for social work. Basically using the book to minister to the needs of others and give them inspiration to carry on. Did you share your thoughts on writing this book with anyone before or during the early stages of your fight? Or was this a personal journey and at some point you realized this could benefit others if published?

You said the book was published two days after your surgery. Did you already have it sent of to the publisher and knew it would be published then? Or did you just make the decision to do so after the surgery?

You used, and still use, social media to encourage others. Have you received any feedback on how you encouraged others on social media as you were posting about the things you went through during your cancer treatments?

Now, I want to take you back to May of 2017. Tell us what was going on that first week of May…

And your friends did not know you were unemployed for those two years because you were constantly on the go, during the treatment and the speaking and promoting the book?

And the last two contracts you received you did not have to apply for. These organizations sought you out instead of the other way around?  That’s awesome!  Glory to God!

You now have FOUR published books! Praise God!  What are the titles of the other books?
