Speaker A:

Now here is your host with today's interview, Pastor Bob Thibodeau.

Speaker B:

Hello everyone everywhere.

Speaker B:

Pastor Bob Thibodeau here.

Speaker B:

Welcome to the Kingdom Crossroads podcast today.

Speaker B:

We're so blessed that you're joining us.

Speaker B:

You know, there is no doubt that we are living in a very stressful time.

Speaker B:

I mean, think about it.

Speaker B:

Just in the past couple of years we've had massive natural disasters, the war in Ukraine, the attacks on Israel, the economy with super high inflation.

Speaker B:

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Speaker B:

Add in the complete shutdown of the economies across the world because of the coronavirus and I mean, is there any wonder where our stress levels are going through the roof?

Speaker B:

And that's where our guest today comes in.

Speaker B:

Martin Newman is a health educator committed to giving you up to date information on how to take care of your health, especially when it comes to stress management.

Speaker B:

yle interventions way back in:

Speaker B:

Since then he's lectured in different parts of the world about a healthy lifestyle and natural remedies.

Speaker B:

In fact, he's going to be hosting a stress reduction summit very soon and we'll be discussing that today as well.

Speaker B:

So stay tuned.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Without all that being said, help me.

Speaker B:

Welcome to the program Martin Newman.

Speaker B:

Martin, it is a blessing to talk with you, brother.

Speaker C:

Yes, thanks for having me today.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

The first question I always start with is this.

Speaker B:

Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, who is Martin Newman?

Speaker C:

Well, I am coming from Austria.

Speaker C:

up in Austria then, you know,:

Speaker C:

That's a Christian place there, just a border in Georgia and Tennessee.

Speaker C:

And I was there six months in the training.

Speaker C:

Then I went back to there and help to develop a program that's called Health Expo.

Speaker C:

It's a community program where we're helping churches to reach out to the community, helping them to improve the lifestyle.

Speaker C:

tations, things like that and:

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Now, you know, I know for me personally, you know, I'm, you know, people get stressed out every day and I am continually doing something every single day, all day long.

Speaker B:

I mean, I literally, this is not an exaggeration.

Speaker B:

I literally have to schedule downtime on my schedule or something will magically appear to make it disappear.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

How do you help people that are that busy when they are probably saying the same things I am?

Speaker B:

You know, I'll get back to you later.

Speaker C:

Yes, there are many things you can do.

Speaker C:

Again, the first thing is look at your schedule, put down priorities.

Speaker C:

Sometimes we are very good in packing up our schedule, getting as much as we can, but we don't think what is really worth my time.

Speaker C:

And, and sometimes what helps, you know, that we put a price tag on a time, you know, to say, you know, yeah, if you're doing something like you're, you're doing a, you put doing some coaching or something else, you know, how much do you earn an hour?

Speaker C:

You know, just think about it.

Speaker C:

It's a hundred, $150.

Speaker C:

What is rate?

Speaker C:

And then, you know, if you're doing some activities, think about it.

Speaker C:

Is the activity you're doing there, you're spending an hour, is, is it worth $150 for you?

Speaker C:

And if it's not, you know, maybe is it possible to just cut it out?

Speaker C:

You know, can you just think, you know, how you can adjust your priorities?

Speaker C:

Can you maybe delegate a few things, you know, to somebody else?

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker C:

Or you know, what you can do to just, you know, free up a little bit your agenda and don't think you need to do everything, be really more specific, more intentional in, in what you're doing.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

You know, I know, and, and this is probably, you know, dealing with the economy and all that, but a lot of people are stressed about work and finances.

Speaker B:

I mean, that puts stress not just on the person and their family, it's also on the job stress that they have to deal with all day long as well.

Speaker B:

Am I, am I right in that?

Speaker C:

Yes.

Speaker C:

Finance is a big one job.

Speaker C:

Many things is work related because it's a little bit complex thing.

Speaker C:

There can be many things on the job that's stressing you out.

Speaker C:

Relationships is also a big one.

Speaker C:

And actually that's a thing that's often is stressing people on a deeper level than you think, you know, yeah, it's A complex thing.

Speaker C:

You know, there are many things that can stress you out, and it depends also very much how you are reacting to stress.

Speaker C:

You know, it can be three persons going through the same situation and everybody reacting a different way.

Speaker B:

But how could someone manage stress at work when they may not be in a position to make changes in their work environment?

Speaker C:

Yes, you may not be able to, to influence everything.

Speaker C:

The first thing is to look, how can I work on my, on my attitude?

Speaker C:

You know, how do you see the situation?

Speaker C:

Do I think, you know, the situation is out of control?

Speaker C:

Do you think that it's just too much, too much going on and I can't handle it?

Speaker C:

Or do I think, you know, yeah, it's quite busy, but let's, let's get on it, you know, let's do the best we can and, you know, the last.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

What about when that person then returns home after work?

Speaker B:

I mean, a lot of time that stress has built up all day and now they walk through the door hoping just to, to chill out and they get hit with something unexpected that they need to deal with at home.

Speaker B:

You know, I know my wife was the classic, you know, wait till your father gets home.

Speaker B:

You know, tight for several years.

Speaker B:

There was a TV cartoon here in the United States by that name too, but.

Speaker B:

But what?

Speaker B:

Just wait till your dad gets home, you're going to be in big trouble type thing, you know.

Speaker B:

And that went on for several years until I was in the military and I got deployed for an extended period of time.

Speaker B:

And she had to learn how to deal with it all on her own.

Speaker B:

But I digress.

Speaker B:

How can someone deal with that continuation of stress at work, and then they come home and they get hit with, you know, the washing machine went out, now what are you going to do?

Speaker B:

You know, how can they deal with that when they're, they're dealing with this stuff all day long?

Speaker C:

You know, if it's once in a while, it's, it's something we can handle, but we need just to see where are our limits.

Speaker C:

You know, do we have some moments that really plan for downtime like you said?

Speaker C:

You know, you need some moments that you really, you know, give to yourself to have some, some moments to rest.

Speaker C:

You know, one thing important is also, you know, that you really have a weekly day of rest.

Speaker C:

And that day is really, you know, no responsibilities.

Speaker C:

You know, it's not the day that you're, you're there washing the car, cleaning the house, things like that, no responsibility, just, just there to relax, you know, connect with God, you know, see what is the purpose, you know, meet with other people and not having to, to worry about anything, you know, and also learning with it too, to do the best you can and then just put your voice also, but, you know, committed to God, you know, come to the point that you can, yeah, just relax in the thing that you say, okay, we have a heavenly father, he will take care of what we couldn't manage to do on our own, you know.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

You know, back in the day, this 40 years ago, I was really into running.

Speaker B:

I mean, you know, the marathons and all that stuff and you know, I just loved running because it was, that was my downtime, I guess you could say, because, you know, just the rhythm of the, the running and the, you know, the heart rate, the breathing rhythm, the, the sound of the feet hitting, you know, it was all just, just relaxing to me.

Speaker B:

I go on a 10 mile run and just relax and you know, now, you know, health problems, knee issues and all that from all those runs, you know, that kind of caught up with, can remember, you know, that was my, that was my relaxation.

Speaker B:

But I would even bring stress into that because, you know, maybe my plan was, you know, okay, I got, I can do five miles in 45 minutes and then shower and get ready to go do whatever it is we need to do.

Speaker B:

But there's something that delayed me going on the run now.

Speaker B:

I got 30 minutes.

Speaker B:

Okay, I can still do three miles.

Speaker B:

I get four if I go really fast.

Speaker B:

So then we start, you know, and just, you know, even my relaxation mode was bringing stress into it.

Speaker C:

Yeah, exercise is really something very good, you know, something that helps you to, to deal with stress.

Speaker C:

You know, it's, it's just helping with the end of things.

Speaker C:

And the hormone level, it's just excellent, you know, to shut down and to, to get, get this.

Speaker C:

You know, if you're coming back from, from the, from a running thing like that, you really feel good.

Speaker C:

You know, it's something that helps you a lot to, to deal with stress in, in a perfect way, you know, because, you know, if you think about it, the stress response is something that really prepares you for either running or fighting, you know, so it's pumping these hormones in you.

Speaker C:

And if we're running, then that's the perfect thing to really get this stressful response down, to really relax after that.

Speaker C:

It's a perfect thing to do.

Speaker C:

But we need to be careful not to put it in a competitive model, not to be there, try with others.

Speaker C:

You know, in a football game, you you need to win a prize.

Speaker C:

Or like you say, you know, you need to compete with yourself, you know, to.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

How much you can do in so much time.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

You know, I saw on your website an article or something about four habits that can reduce your stress levels.

Speaker B:

Can you share a little bit about those with us?

Speaker C:

Four habits?

Speaker C:

Oh, there's many articles on the side which was that.

Speaker B:

Well, exercise got to be one.

Speaker B:

What else is there?

Speaker C:

Exercise.

Speaker C:

Exercise is a big, big one we need.

Speaker C:

You need to.

Speaker C:

To work on.

Speaker C:

Rest is also important one.

Speaker B:

You know, like God commands us.

Speaker B:

He commands us.

Speaker B:

I want you to take 52 days every year off.

Speaker B:

And like you said, off does not mean.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Now, this is my day off, so I can go up and clean the eavesdrops and wash and wax the car and cut the grass.

Speaker B:

And that's not off.

Speaker B:

That's doing work still.

Speaker C:

Yeah.

Speaker C:

This weekly day of rest is very important, you know, that we have really one day where we can shut down, not take any responsibilities and just be there with the family and everything else around us and also connect with God.

Speaker C:

It's a purpose, what you're doing.

Speaker C:

Besides that, also the moments of sleep, you know, it's very important to have a quality sleep at night.

Speaker C:

You know, sometimes we try when we have too much to do, we're trying to cut corners in, you know, we say, yeah, let's see if we can.

Speaker C:

Yeah, yeah, that's right.

Speaker C:

Of rest.

Speaker C:

And then, you know, what.

Speaker C:

What happens?

Speaker C:

Then we go to bed late.

Speaker C:

Then we are waking up in the morning.

Speaker C:

We are not relaxed.

Speaker C:

Then our performance goes down, you know, in the night.

Speaker C:

That is the moment where our brain is going to recuperate.

Speaker C:

It's consolidating the memory.

Speaker C:

It is doing things, preparing us for the next day.

Speaker C:

If you don't have this proper preparation at night, then next day we are waking up and.

Speaker C:

Yeah, you're not prepared to do this.

Speaker C:

Yeah, you're going to accomplish less than you want to.

Speaker C:

And at the end, you're more stressed again and sleeping worse next night.

Speaker C:

And it's just a vicious cycle.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

,:

Speaker B:

Can you share what that summit will be about and how someone can attend?

Speaker C:

Yes.

Speaker C:

This summit is going to happen.

Speaker C:

You know, we're trying to put together a number of different speakers.

Speaker C:

I'm still working on getting everybody together, but as we have some good speakers already signed up, and we are going to discuss this issue in different Angles, the people who are going to speak about organizing, speaking about nutritionists, going to speak about your diet, about supplements, about other things.

Speaker C:

There are many different issues, you know, mindset, also spiritual issues.

Speaker C:

You know, how can you work on your relationship with God?

Speaker C:

How can this help you to really control your stress in more efficient way?

Speaker C:

So it's working different ways, you know, to see how can you really be more resilient to stress.

Speaker C:

How can you have something to, to really work on, on your stress load.

Speaker C:

And different expert is going to give some tips for you to the whole thing.

Speaker C:

They can.

Speaker C:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:

Amen.

Speaker B:
