Leadership. That means different things to different people. Military leadership is organized to accomplish any assigned mission. Business leadership is actually the same thing – the success of your business – whatever that business may be. But, just as great military leaders are made and not born, true success in business requires commitment to your leadership style, technique and personality. Just because someone is a business owner or business executive does not automatically make them a great business leader. In order for military personnel to develop into leadership material, they must have great leaders themselves. They need to be mentored. A brand new private who just graduated basic training is not put in charge of an infantry division for a major battle. No matter how good that private may think he is, it just will not work. Just because you have a great idea to start your own business does not mean you are qualified to be called a great leader. You need someone to mentor you along the path to success as well. That’s where my guest today comes in the picture… Kyle Gillette grew up on an orange farm in the Central Valley of California where he discovered the importance of hard work and what it's like to be a son in a family-owned business and what it takes to run one. His journey ultimately took him away from oranges and into people-oriented industries. But his passion for helping leaders boutique/small businesses succeed has always stayed with him. First question, other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Kyle Gillette?” Let’s back up a bit… You were in the corporate arena.  But something happened that made you change your priorities and take the plunge into starting your own business. What happened and why did you think that would be the best solution for you, personally? You shared with me that you had rather impactful dream that you believe God gave to you. Can you share with us about that? So, what exactly is a SAGE Mindset? As I shared, just because someone is a business owner – or wants to be a business owner – does not immediately make them a leader. They may be in a leadership position, but they are basically learning by doing.  What can someone do to start the process of becoming a better leader? I know, and this includes me as well, that time management is really one of the most troublesome areas to manage. I’ve been doing this awhile and there are still things that pop up that just throw my schedule for a loop. For the most part, I’ve got it under control. But I’ve also been doing this for 11 years. How can someone who is just starting out manage their time more efficiently? A lot of folks are small business owners, even solopreneurs. And that is where accountability is really lacking. I mean, for a lot of folks, being the business owner means doing what you want.  But that is really not the best path to follow. How do you help your clients be accountable for their actions?
